Survivor-Informed Policymaking for Justice Through Consultation
Using concrete examples from real-world case studies, the opening session of this webinar series will spotlight the perspectives of two survivors on the importance of consultation as a critical part of the policy-making process and as one component of meaningful victim participation. It will highlight where victim and survivor consultation has and has not been effective and meaningful, where it has been entirely absent from the policymaking process, and where it has built up expectations that cannot be met. This opening session will highlight common challenges encountered when striving to incorporate victim and survivor consultation into policymaking and decision-making and how to overcome these challenges through four interconnected and mutually reinforcing principles with attendant best practices.
