J.D. students who want to participate in a second externship for academic credit must request permission to do so through the Externship Application. When completing the application, you will need to provide the following information:

  • The name of the field placement organization where you completed your first externship for credit;
  • The semester or summer session in which you completed your first externship;
  • The name of your proposed, second field placement organization;
  • The name of the companion seminar that you participated in during your first externship, and
  • How your fieldwork in your second externship will differ SUBSTANTIVELY and SUBSTANTIALLY from the work you conducted at your first externship. Specifically:
    • How will your learning goals differ?
    • How will your responsibilities differ?
    • How will your work be more challenging?
    • What new knowledge will you acquire?
    • What new skills will you develop?

Upon reaching a decision on a student’s second externship request, the student will be notified accordingly via email.
