Alan Pemberton received his B.A. from the University of Chicago, and an M.A. and J.D. from the University of Michigan.
He is Senior Counsel at Covington & Burling LLP, where he chairs the firm’s Public Service Committee, overseeing pro bono efforts worldwide. His own pro bono practice focuses on the rights of prisoners and criminal justice reform. Before taking senior status, as a partner he chaired the firm’s Government Contracts practice, handling a wide range of matters, including bid protests, administrative litigation, regulatory advice, lobbying, and transactional work. He and his wife divide time between their home in the Maryland suburbs and a home near Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.
