Amelia Huckins is a Visiting Associate Professor of Law in the Legal Practice program. Previously, Professor Huckins was a trial attorney in the Educational Opportunities Section of the U.S. Department of Justiceโs Civil Rights Division, where she enforced federal anti-discrimination statutes in Kโ12 schools and colleges and universities across the country. Professor Huckins litigated school desegregation cases, negotiated settlement agreements to protect the rights of English learner students and students with disabilities, and investigated complaints of discrimination against students. She received a Special Commendation for outstanding service to the Civil Rights Division in 2023. Before joining the Civil Rights Division through the Attorney Generalโs Honors Program, Professor Huckins was an Equal Justice Works Fellow at the Mississippi Center for Justice. Professor Huckins began her career as a third grade teacher in the Mississippi Delta.
Professor Huckins holds a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was an Executive Online Editor of the Michigan Law Review, and a B.A. from Pepperdine University.
