Professor Moran has over twenty-five years of experience in the employee benefits area. She has been a partner at Steptoe & Johnson, LLP and Miller & Chevalier Chartered. In that capacity, she has advised clients on issues arising under retirement, health, and other benefit plans and represented clients during Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor audits. Professor Moran also has considerable experience in insurance products, particularly those used to finance employee benefits and executive compensation programs. Immediately after graduation from Harvard Law School, Professor Moran served as a law clerk for Judge Philip Nichols, Jr., on the U.S. Court of Claims.
From 1983-1986, Professor Moran was Tax Counsel for the Senate Finance Committee. She served in the ERISA Advisory Council for the US Department of Labor and as the Chair of the Joint Committee on Employee Benefits for the American Bar Association. She has served as the Chair of the Employee Benefits Committee for the District of Columbia Bar Association and of the American Bar Association’s Joint Committee on Employee Benefits. Professor Moran has been listed in “Best Lawyers in America , ” and writes and speaks frequently on employee benefits matters. Her publications have been included in the Journal of Taxation, Employee Relations Law Journal, and Benefits Law Journal. She has spoken at numerous institutes and associations, including the Tax Executives Institute, the American Law Institute, and the American Bar Association.
