Elizabeth T. Simon is an Associate General Counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, where she leads a team of ethics advisors in advising on a wide range of ethics and compliance-related matters to support Akin’s offices worldwide. She is involved in issues impacting firm risk management and client relations, including resolving conflicts of interest, and developing policies to support ethics and compliance best practices.
Professor Simon is an experienced litigator, having spent her legal career representing clients in disputes involving legal ethics, insurance coverage, professional liability, intellectual property, and business torts.
As a legal ethics advisor, she has counseled lawyers and bar applicants on ethical and professional responsibility obligations and represented clients in bar investigations, disciplinary proceedings, fee disputes, and bar admissions matters.
She is the current Chair of the D.C. Bar’s Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee and a former Chair of the D.C. Bar Legal Ethics Committee. She is a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers (“APRL”) and serves as APRL’s liaison to the ABA’s Standing Committee on Lawyer Referral Information Service. She is a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Professionalism and the CLE Committee for the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility. She is also a member of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Professional Discipline. She speaks extensively on ethics issues.
Professor Simon received her B.A. and M.S.Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania and her JD from Albany Law School.
