Professor Lopez has taught Writing for Law Practice at Georgetown since 2014. He has over twenty years of legal practice experience, many as a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Intellectual Property Litigation Practice groups and as a leader of the False Claims Act/Qui Tam team at an AMLaw 100 firm. His practice has focused on complex commercial litigation including investigation, fact and expert discovery, pretrial, mediation, trial and appellate proceedings in state and federal courts, administrative tribunals and in arbitration.

Professor Lopez has served as trial counsel in a variety of cases in state and federal courts. He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in bench and jury trials, including against claims of fraud, seeking hundreds of millions of dollars under the federal False Claims Act. He has appeared in courts across the country representing clients in litigation involving cutting edge technology, represented a wide range of public and privately owned businesses in matters involving copyright, trademarks, trade dress, legal malpractice, business torts, construction, real estate, consumer fraud, product liability and white collar criminal defense.

In addition to his client representations, Professor Lopez has served as Summer Associate Hiring Partner, developed and taught portions of his firm’s first year associate training program, and mentored many associates. He has also taught trial advocacy Continuing Legal Education to lawyers in the pro bono and public service sector through programs sponsored by the Washington Council of Lawyers and lectured before various bar associations and other legal groups.
