Julie Ryan is a corporate and securities partner at San Francisco-based Acceleron Law Group, LLP, where she focuses on advising technology start-ups and other companies on strategic business transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, equity and debt financing, joint ventures, corporate structuring, commercial transactions, securities laws, and general corporate advice.

Previously, Professor Ryan was a partner at Russ August & Kabat, LLP, a Los Angeles-based law firm, where she helped launch the firm’s corporate practice, advising clients on a broad range of matters, including international and domestic mergers & acquisitions, public and private equity financings, fund formation, SEC compliance, licensing, and partnerships and LLCs.

She also formerly practiced with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and at Clifford Chance Rogers & Wells in Washington, D.C., in the fields of cross-border finance, securities, and international mergers and acquisitions.

In addition to practicing law, Professor Ryan has also served on the faculty at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law as an Associate Professor of Lawyering Skills and Associate Director of LL.M. Legal Writing where she taught mergers and acquisitions, transactional lawyering skills, contract drafting, and advanced legal writing. She also teaches at Loyola Law School, and is Head of Experiential Learning at AltaClaro, an online legal-skills CLE training platform, and Education Chair of the Corporations Committee of the California Lawyer’s Association.

She is the author of the forthcoming textbook (Carolina Academic Press): Transactional Lawyering: An Experiential Approach to Communication & Problem Solving.

Prior to attending law school, Professor Ryan spent several years working overseas, including two years in Bogotá, Colombia where she helped the government promote foreign direct investment. She speaks fluent French and Spanish.

Professor Ryan received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center (J.D., 1999, cum laude), and her undergraduate degree from Colorado State University (B.A., 1993, summa cum laude and valedictorian). She is admitted to the New York, California, and District of Columbia Bars.
