Teaching international organizations, Katherine Gorove has over 25 years of distinguished service with the Department of State, including at the U.S. Mission to the UN in Geneva and at the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan, as well as some years working with international organizations, foreign governments, academic institutions, and the private sector. Her career spans human rights law, international peace and security issues, global health law, maritime law, business and human rights law, and engagements with international organizations and tribunals. She has successfully negotiated and concluded bilateral and multilateral agreements, crafted solutions to resolve international disputes, and guided senior policymakers in times of crisis. Ms. Gorove has represented the USG before numerous international and regional organizations, represented another government before the International Court of Justice, previously worked for an international organization, and crafted a solution for the successful closure of an international organization. She has represented the USG on the board of directors of a multi-stakeholder organization comprised of private security companies (PSCs) and human rights organizations, that provided a framework for oversight and monitoring of PSCs, thereby mitigating risks. While detailed to the Army JAG School, she co-edited an influential Rule of Law Handbook for Judge Advocate Generals working in Iraq and Afghanistan. She has taught a variety of international law classes (including international organizations, international business and human rights, international law, and international human rights) as an adjunct at AU’s Washington College of Law, George Washington School of Law, and Johns Hopkins SAIS. She previously taught at the University of Mississippi School of Law and served as a Fulbright Lecturer in Law at the Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest, Hungary.
