Professor Hansen joined the Law Office of Chadbourne & Parke LLP in 1999 as a Partner in the firm’s project finance group. (Chadbourne combined with Norton Rose Fulbright in 2017.) Prior to joining Chadbourne, Professor Hansen was the General Counsel of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, where he served as chief legal counsel to the Chairman and to the Board of Directors of the Agency and headed the Agency’s legal office. Prior to joining the Export-Import Bank, Professor Hansen spent nine years with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the U.S. agency that provides project financing and political risk insurance for private-sector projects in emerging markets. At OPIC, he was, among other positions, Associate General Counsel for Investment. He represents bilateral, multilateral and commercial lenders, and project developers, in structuring and implementing international project financings and project workouts and in the settlement of expropriation, political violence and currency inconvertibility claims on political risk insurance policies. He leads Norton ROse Fulbright’s extensive practice in connection with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Guarantee Programs for innovative and alternative energy projects. His sectoral experience ranges from power generation, transmission and distribution projects to oil and gas, transportation, and telecommunications infrastructure projects, as well as a range of industrial and commercial projects.

Professor Hansen has taught economics and finance at a number of institutions, including Wellesley College, Harvard University, Bryn Mawr College, Haverford College, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, George Washington University National Law Center, Boston University Law School, John Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, and at Georgetown. He has also written and spoken widely.
