Lynette B. Martins, LL.M. ’22

Lynette B. Martins is the Jaharis Faculty Fellow in Health Law & Intellectual Property at DePaul University College of Law, where she teaches upper-level courses including Health Equity & the Law, the Law & Ethics of AI in Healthcare, and FDA Law. She also serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Health at New York Medical College. Her research focuses on public health law, artificial intelligence and the law, health equity, bioethics, and health care regulation.

Prior to joining DePaul, Professor Martins was a Senior Research Fellow at the Solomon Center for Health Law & Policy at Yale Law School and a Research Assistant with the COVID-19 Law Lab at Georgetown’s O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law. Her career bridges law, medicine, and public health: before entering legal academia, she worked in public health research for the Government of the Bahamas, including implementing a national pediatric neurology disease database.

Professor Martins’s scholarship has appeared in the Tulsa Law Review, Pace Law Review, Texas Environmental Law Journal, and the Seattle Journal of Technology, Environmental & Innovation Law, as well as peer-reviewed medical and public health journals including the Journal of Palliative Medicine. Her current work examines liability frameworks for mental health harms arising from AI chatbots, and she presents regularly at national conferences including the ASLME Health Law Professors Conference and the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities Annual Conference, where she co-chairs the Immigration and Bioethics Affinity Group.

Professor Martins earned her LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2022, graduating with Honor’s Distinction and Dean’s List recognition. She remains an active member of the Georgetown community as a Student and Alumni Ambassador for the LL.M. Program and the Caribbean Regional Alumni Network. She also holds a Master of Bioethics, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from the University of Huddersfield, a Postgraduate Diploma in Population Health Evidence from the University of Manchester, and a Bachelor of Health Sciences from the University of Miami.
