B.A., Duke; J.D., Syracuse College of Law. Professor Altman is the principal of Altman Dispute Resolution Services, offering consulting, mediation and related services to resolve conflicts. He was formerly Assistant Director in the Commercial Litigation Branch of the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, where he was responsible for litigation involving fraud against the United States. As Co-Chair of the Civil Division ADR Committee, he helped develop the Division’s ADR Policy and the Department’s ADR courses. Professor Altman is a mediator for the DC Superior Court, the US Court of Appeals for DC and teaches courses on negotiation for organizations including the DC Bar. He is a frequent lecturer to attorneys nationwide on issues of negotiations, and the resolution of civil fraud cases. Professor Altman is the 2013 recipient of the Law Center’s Charles Fahy Distinguished Adjunct Professor award and was recognized in 2018 as the outstanding mediator in the DC Superior Court Civil 1 docket.
