Zakiya Thomas is a campaign manager and political strategist. In 2020 she managed Dr. Woody Myers’ campaign for Governor of Indiana. Prior to this position she was the Deputy National Political Director for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. In 2017, she managed Justin Fairfax’s successful campaign for Lt. Governor of Virginia making him only the second African American elected to the position in the state’s history. Professor Thomas has managed winning campaigns on the state and local level including the re-election of Sheriff Stacey Kincaid, the first female Sheriff elected in Fairfax County, the largest county in Virginia. The first African American woman to run a statewide campaign in Virginia or Indiana, Professor Thomas has a consistent record of helping candidates raise millions of dollars and exceed expectations in number of votes earned.

Professor Thomas is the CEO of a management consulting firm founded on the premise of doing well while doing good. The firm helps small businesses, startups, nonprofits, and political organizations grow, adapt, and thrive. Clients include political campaigns and organizations, Political Action Committees, and nonprofits. A licensed social worker, Professor Thomas volunteers with Fairfax County’s Nurturing Parenting Program. She received a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science from the College of William and Mary.
