Anya Howko-Johnson
Anya grew up between Washington State, Michigan, and Scotland. In 2022, Anya graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown University with a B.S. in International Politics and a minor in French. While at Georgetown, Anya was a Provost Distinguished Undergraduate Research Fellow and captain of the fencing team.
As an undergraduate, Anya interned for the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, and the Council on Foreign Relations Global Governance department, where she published an original paper arguing for expanded legal protections for climate refugees.
Following graduation, Anya worked as an Intelligence Analyst for the US defense community with specializations in Eastern Europe, climate change, and political leadership. She was then awarded a Fulbright Research Grant to Athens, Greece to work with the UN Chair for Climate Diplomacy. In Greece, Anya published a policy paper examining the impacts of EU climate adaptation and mitigation measures on gender-based security, provided research for numerous conferences including COP28, and helped write a speech for President Katerina Sakellaropoulou of Greece. Her favorite memory of her year abroad was climbing Mt. Olympus.
As a law student, Anya has completed a summer internship with the Honorable Judge. Zia Faruqui at the District Court for the District for Columbia, received her PADI Sub-diving certification, and found the best places to read fiction books in the District.
