Rebecca Clingman

Before attending Georgetown, Rebecca worked as a French-English interpreter for eight years. She interpreted for a wide range of clients, including the World Bank, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Millenium Challenge Corporation, SEIU, large law firms, and many others. She was fortunate enough to interpret for several heads of state and government. Additionally, she volunteered her time to interpret for asylum seekers. A large portion of her work was for the U.S. Department of State, where she passed the French-to-English conference exam, rating her eligible to interpret in this direction for the U.S. government at the diplomatic level.

Prior to her interpretation career, Rebecca interned with the French Heritage Society, where she worked on cultural patrimony projects in southwest France, and with Technicis (now Accolad) in Paris, where she translated and reviewed texts for multiple industry clients. She also worked for one year as an English teacher in the public school system of Toulouse, France. This range of work fostered her love of bridging cultural gaps and supporting clients of any profile, something Rebecca hopes to bring to her work as an attorney.
Rebecca holds a B.A. from Pomona College in philosophy and French; she also spent one undergraduate semester studying abroad in Paris at the Sorbonne. She holds an M.A. in translation and interpretation from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

In her free time, Rebecca enjoys reading, cooking, and fussing over her cat. Though she grew up in western Massachusetts, she now calls Washington, D.C. home and loves the city. After studying law at Georgetown, she hopes to pursue a career in international law. She is most interested in the Francophone world.
