RoPhoto of Roman Shpuntenkoman Shpuntenko grew up in Moscow, Russia, where he graduated with honors from Lomonosov Moscow State University Faculty of Law.

In his undergraduate years, he was an active member of the MSU Moot community. Roman was a team member at the 27th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, in which the MSU team for the first time in its history received Honourable mentions for both Claimant’s and Respondent’s Memoranda, while Roman himself obtained best speaker awards at several pre-moots.

Later Roman became a member of the MSU Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot team, which advanced to the Elimination rounds and was ranked 13th for its overall scores, while Roman was among the 20 best advocates of the global rounds.

After graduation, Roman worked at the Corporate and M&A practice of a distinguished Russian law firm, drafting transaction documents under Russian and English law for deals with Russian and foreign companies.

At Georgetown, Roman hopes to acquire a fundamental and well-rounded understanding of common law, with a special interest in private law theory. He also aspires to further pursue his long-time interest in commercial and investment arbitration and conflict-of-laws.

In his free time Roman enjoys swimming, Argentine tango, discovering Asian cuisines and learning languages (currently French and German).
