Bwalya Chisanga (she/her) is a Research Assistant at the Institute for Technology Law & Policy.
Bwalya Chisanga (She/Her) is a Research Assistant at Georgetown Law’s Tech Institute, where she provides programmatic and technical support on Artificial Intelligence and global technology law and policy.
She is Zambia’s inaugural Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa (LAWA) Fellow at Georgetown Law, where her research focuses on modeling cyber laws to protect women politicians from online violence, thereby strengthening democratic governance. Her expertise spans public policy, human rights, gender equity, good governance, international law and development, and leveraging technology for social impact.
Bwalya was admitted to the Zambian Bar in 2017 after earning her LL.B. from the University of Zambia (UNZA). She later obtained an LL.M. in Human Rights and Democratization from the University of Pretoria. She has worked as a Legal Associate at Mulenga Mundashi Legal Practitioners and as a Legal Consultant for the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa and Family Health International 360. She also served as a lecturer at the UNZA School of Law and as a graduate researcher at the African Union. Most recently, she was a Senior Program Officer at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) in Zambia, managing programs on elections, advocacy, and electoral reform.
Bwalya is a board member of the Media Network on Children’s Rights and Development, an alumna of the European Union Young African Leadership Program, and was recognized as the United Nations Global Leader for Disarmament for Africa.
She is currently pursuing an LL.M. in Technology Law and Policy at Georgetown University, where she serves as an LL.M. student ambassador and an extern at the Federal Trade Commission. She is also a Research Assistant at Georgetown’s Center on Privacy and Technology.
