Welcome to Graduate Legal Studies at Georgetown Law, where students have an unparalleled opportunity to broaden and deepen their understanding of law through advanced study. Our extraordinary faculty combines world-class scholars with sophisticated practitioners, leading judges, and key government policymakers and officials. In this environment, U.S. and international lawyers gather to challenge themselves to reach the next level of excellence through LL.M., S.J.D., and specialized certificate programs.
These factors contribute to the Georgetown difference in graduate legal education. No other school combines the richness of the Georgetown curriculum - more than 350 advanced classes and seminars in every field of law –with the advantages of a location in the heart of Washington, D.C., a global center for law and policymaking. Georgetown draws on its DC advantage every day by placing students in LL.M.externships that cannot be duplicated in any other city and by bringing those whose daily work is making and shaping the law into classrooms where they teach the leaders of the future.
Georgetown offers a one-year LL.M. program, with multiple degree options; a Two-year LL.M. with a Certificate in Advanced Legal English; and a range of exciting dual degree options - including an M.B.A., a Masters in Management, and a Masters in International Affairs –with top universities around the world. The LL.M. student body is a mix of U.S. and international students, combining those who received a J.D. from a U.S. law school with those who have first law degrees from universities in more than 60 countries. The S.J.D. program is designed for those desiring a career in law teaching in their home countries.
Whether your interest lies in sharpening your knowledge base in one of Georgetown's areas of excellence, or switching career paths, or combining sophisticated course work with qualifying for a U.S. bar exam, you can achieve your goals at Georgetown.
