Angela Kung (LL.M. 1999), a partner at Pinheiro Neto Advogados, participated in a panel discussion of “Medical Products: Clinical Research in Brazil and the U.S.” at a conference on U.S. and Brazil: Navigating New Frontiers in Pharmaceuticals, Medical Device and Food law Regulation, sponsored by the Food and Drug Law Institute in São Paulo, Brazil, on September 10, 2012.

Professor Lisa Heinzerling attended the Rio+20 conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro.  Heinzerling served as a chair on a panel discussing "Rio Principles in Sustainable Development Treaties" in a side event focused on Legal Frameworks for Sustainable Development.  The panel included speakers from the International Center of Comparative Environmental Law, the World Resources Institute, and the UC Berkeley School of Law.  The panelists discussed the impact of multi-lateral environmental agreements in promoting green economic development since the World Earth Summit in 1992. 

Seventeen Georgetown Law students spent time in various parts of Latin American this summer to take placements in GULC's International Internship Program (IIP).
 3L Mercedes Morno, for example, headed to Sao Paulo to work with Almeida Advogados.  Almeida is a corporate business firm that practices in a number of economic sectors including, but not limited to, international trade, capital markets, and banking.  David Hanna, a 2L, was in Ecuador working with the firm Coronel y Perez.  "It has been a wonderful experience," said Hanna in a recent email to CAROLA, "I've gotten to create purchase agreement contracts for major deals between international clients, as well as contributing to major ongoing cases."  Other 2Ls and 3Ls worked in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru.  Four students worked in the public sector, while thirteen were with private sector firms.
