Shaping Investor-State Arbitration in a COVID-19 World

September 11, 2020

WASHINGTON โ€“ To kick off its fall series on The Americas in Times of COVID-19, Georgetown Lawโ€™s Center for the Advancement of the Rule of Law in the Americas (CAROLA) will host โ€œShaping Investor State-Arbitration in a COVID-19 Worldโ€ on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020.

WHAT

In these extraordinary times, when states have taken emergency measures and are strapped for resources, should the investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) system operate differently? Have investor complaints started to take form during the pandemic? What measures could states take to prevent investorsโ€™ claims or mitigate potential damages? Expert speakers will address proposals to reform the international investment law regime during an hour-long discussion on โ€œShaping Investor-State Arbitration in a COVID-19 World,โ€ followed by 30 minutes for Q&A.

Subsequent webinars in The Americas in Times of COVID-19 series will include โ€œThe Future of Tradeโ€ (Sept. 29), โ€œThe New Labor Regime under USMCAโ€ (Oct. 13), โ€œThe Future of Migration in the Americasโ€ (Oct. 27) and โ€œA Roadmap for Business, Human Rights and Sustainability in the Americasโ€ (Nov. 10).
