The information below is for both incoming and returning LLM, MSL, MLT, SJD and Executive LLM students applying for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Graduate law students are welcome to apply for loans (federal or private) to cover their cost of attendance. Graduate students are not eligible for the need-based Dean’s Tuition Grant.

  • If you would like to be notified when the 2024-2025 Applications for Financial Aid have officially opened, please complete our notification form.
  • Various scholarships and fellowships are available for International Graduate level students through the Office of Admissions, you can review the information about their opportunities HERE or contact their office.

Graduate Law application – Checklist

 

Step 1 - FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is required for all applicants (unless you're only seeking private loans).

Use School Code G21075. Be sure to select the correct application year.

Your parents' information is NOT required here.

Step 2 - Budget

Figure out how much you will need to borrow to cover tuition, books and living expenses (the cost of attendance) for the upcoming academic year.

When the linked page opens, select the correct aid year and select the appropriate student budget.

You will request the amount you need in Step 7, below.

Executive LLM and Master's programs have a separate graduate budget.

Step 3 - Loan Types

Next, learn more about the different types of student loans available to you.

Step 4 - Loan Documents

You must complete (online) various requirements for your student loans. Complete AFTER March 15th.

Step 5 - Georgetown Law Credentials - Incoming Students

After you are admitted you can retrieve your Georgetown Net ID credential from the Admitted Student Website. Any questions regarding your credentials, please notify the Office of Admissions at lawhotline@georgetown.edu.

Step 6 - Set-Up Your Georgetown Password - Incoming Students

Once you have your Georgetown Net ID credential you can establish your new Georgetown password through Georgetown's Password Management System. Any questions regarding your password, please notify the Office of Admissions at lawhotline@georgetown.edu.

Step 7 - Request and Accept Your Loans with the Georgetown Green Application

Using the amount you determined that you would need in Step 2, above, complete the Georgetown Law Green Application to request the certification of your student loans you wish to accept.

This application can be submitted ONLY ONCE so please ensure accuracy and completeness.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE: If you have placed a security freeze on your credit file, you must lift or remove the freeze at each credit bureau before you continue. Your application will not be processed if you have a security freeze.

Step 8 - Award Notice

Beginning in July we will email completed applicants their award notice confirming their loan selections. You would have already received your tentative award via email after completing your Green Application.

The priority filing dates are:

Summer aid requests - April 15th
Fall aid requests - June 1st (continuing students, try to complete before leaving for the summer)
