James served as an Investigative Counsel and then Senior Investigative Counsel for the U.S. House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. James was a member of the January 6th Committee’s “Red” team, which, among other topics, investigated: the individuals who stormed the Capitol; the domestic violent extremist groups that planned to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power; and how the rally and President Trump’s speech came together. In addition to the investigative work, James was an integral member of the team that produced the January 6th Committee’s final report.
Prior to joining the January 6th Committee, James briefly worked as an Associate Attorney at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in the General Litigation practice. He joined Orrick after clerking for two years, first for Justice David Lowy of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and then for Judge Ojetta Rogeriee Thompson of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
James graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2019 and successfully defended his dissertation in front of Princeton’s Department of Politics in August 2021. He researched and wrote about the increasing prevalence of partisan litigation in modern America. Aside from his professional life, James is an avid NBA fan, and loves to cook and travel.
