Professor Tiffany Jeffers teaches legal practice and advanced legal theory. Previously, she was on the faculty at Penn State Dickinson Law, where she was an Assistant Professor of Legal Writing and Director of Bar Excellence. She taught legal research, writing and analysis and bar preparation courses in contracts, evidence and torts. During law practice, Professor Jeffers taught criminal procedure as an adjunct at American University, Washington College of Law.

Prior to joining the legal academy, Professor Jeffers was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore County, Maryland. She tried misdemeanor and felony cases before the district and circuit courts of Baltimore County. As an ASA she was assigned to the sex offense and child abuse unit, the juvenile division, and the felony trial division. Before becoming a criminal prosecutor, she was a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Zinora Mitchell-Rankin of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She earned a B.A. in Political Science from Spelman College. She received her J.D. from The Pennsylvania State University where she was a Comments Editor for the Penn State Environmental Law Review.

Professor Jeffers’ scholarship centers her professional expertise in the criminal legal system and her pedagogical expertise related to legal reasoning and analysis. Specifically, her scholarship focuses on racial inequities in the criminal legal system with particular focus on Black youth in the juvenile legal system. An additional focal point of Professor Jeffers’ scholarship and teaching lies at the intersection of legal education reform and equitable access to the legal profession for historically excluded and marginalized communities. Professor Jeffers has published articles, essay, and panel presentations in peer edited journals including, The Journal of the Legal Writing Institute and The Journal of Legal Education. She has also published opinion editorials in Bloomberg Law and USA Today.

As an expert in criminal trial work, Professor Jeffers has appeared on network radio, web and television news stations discussing high profile criminal cases and their impact on society. She is the Legal Analyst for Our Body Politic, a podcast created and hosted by award winning journalist Farai Chideya. Professor Jeffers is immersed in the national legal writing community and has served on committees for the Legal Writing Institute and the Association of Legal Writing Directors. She is also a member of multiple national and international law organizations including the American Association of Law Schools, Law and Society, and the Society of Law Teachers.
