Announcing Vice Dean and Associate Deans for 2023-2024
Georgetown Law Dean William M. Treanor shared the following message with the Georgetown Law community:
As we look forward to a new academic year, I write to let you know about some upcoming changes in the Associate Dean team starting on July 1.
Before we look ahead to the coming year, I first want to offer my heartfelt thanks to Hillary Sale for her outstanding service as Associate Dean for Strategy and to Madhavi Sunder for her outstanding work as Associate Dean for Graduate and International Programs. I thank them for their remarkable commitment to the Law Center and for the invaluable work they have performed in their respective leadership roles. Their expertise and contributions were essential to the Law Center’s success, and while their tenures will conclude on June 30, their contributions will continue to guide us as we plan for a successful year ahead.
I am delighted to announce that, effective July 1, Lily Faulhaber will become Vice Dean. During the next couple of years, I anticipate that a major part of my responsibilities will be fundraising for a new building and developing plans for the Capitol Campus. As a result, I have decided to create the equivalent of a provost for the Law Center. In this role, Lily will be responsible for the day-to-day academic operations of the Law Center, and her office will be the primary locus of decision-making for the Law Center’s academic affairs. The Associate Deans for Academic Affairs, Centers and Institutes, Clinics and Experiential Learning, International and Graduate Programs, and Research and Academic Programs will all report directly to her.
For 2023-2024, we have a terrific team of Associate Deans who are continuing to serve, as well as two new incoming Associate Deans. I am excited to work with this talented and thoughtful group of leaders in the year ahead.
Rosa Brooks will continue to serve as Associate Dean for Centers and Institutes. In this role, Rosa will continue to work closely with our Centers and Institutes on short- and long-term strategic planning.
Greg Klass will continue to serve as Associate Dean for External Programs. In this role, Greg is coordinating the planning for a new law building, as well as exploring other real estate opportunities in the neighborhood. He will also continue to oversee our Careers teams.
Robin Lenhardt will continue to serve as Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She will focus on strategic and organizational planning in the DEI space, as well as leading focused faculty conversations on ways to promote inclusion in the classroom. While Anjali Patel, our Chief Diversity Officer, will focus on student- and staff-related issues and initiatives, Robin will focus on faculty-related issues and initiatives.
Alicia Plerhoples will continue to serve as Associate Dean for Clinics and Experiential Learning. She oversees promotion of the strategic vision for these programs and will continue to support our faculty, staff, fellows, and students on issues related to this important work.
Neel Sukhatme will take over for Lily Faulhaber as Associate Dean for Research and Academic Programs. In this role, he will support our faculty on issues related to scholarship and professional advancement. He will also oversee the Law Center’s academic conferences, lectures, workshops, and other special events, as well as Faculty Support.
Carlos Vázquez will take over for Madhavi Sunder as Associate Dean for International and Graduate Programs. Carlos will work with our transnational programs team and oversee our graduate and international programs, including the Center for Transnational Legal Studies.
Urska Velikonja will continue to serve as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In this role, she oversees the critical work of the Office of the Registrar and works closely with our J.D. and LL.M. curricular teams as they continue to develop our vast curriculum, create innovative curricular programs, and provide academic support to our students.
Thank you to all who have served this past year and to those who will be serving in the coming year. I am tremendously grateful to all of you and I look forward to working together.
