Rohit Purma
Rohit is a 2L at Georgetown Law in Cohort 7 of the Business Law Scholars program. After law school, he would like to practice corporate transactional law at a law firm. His interests in transactional law include bankruptcy, securities, and capital markets. On campus, he is a member of CFLO. This past summer, he interned at the MLB in New York.
Background
Rohit graduated from the Rutgers University Business School Honors Program where he double majored in Accounting & Economics with a minor in Political Science. He was President of Rutgers Beta Alpha Psi, Treasurer of Mock Trial, a Teaching Assistant in the Accounting Department, Peer Instructor of the first-year interest group seminar, and was a Graduate of the Rutgers Road to Wall Street Program. He also volunteered for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program during all four years of college where he filed free tax returns on behalf of underserved New Brunswick residents.
Prior to law school, Rohit worked as an Interest Rate Trader for Goldman Sachs in New York. His role included hedging the bank’s interest rate portfolio by trading interest rate products like interest rate swaps and US Treasury bonds. He also conducted capital trades such as managing the secured funding book and issuing brokered certificates of deposit. His internships in college include working at Goldman as a Controller intern, the SEC as a Broker-Dealer intern, and Aurobindo Pharma as an Accounting Intern.
Beyond Law School
Rohit was born in Hyderabad, India. He came to New Jersey with his family when he was around 5 years old, and he grew up in NJ ever since. He is fluent in Telugu, speaks conversational French, and basic Hindi. Interests include basketball (NY Knicks), Bollywood movies & music, reading fantasy and finance books, and Xbox video games. Rohit adopted a cat a couple years ago. His cat is very cute and fluffy.
