The Human Rights Institute is delighted to announce longtime human rights advocate for the abolition of the death penalty Diann Rust-Tierney as one of our 2023-24 Distinguished Fellows. For 17 years, Diann led the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, where she built a nationwide network of state and local organizations seeking to change public policy on the death penalty. In part due to her persistent and visionary leadership, Virginia became the 23rd state—and first state in the South—to eliminate capital punishment in 2021. Throughout her career, Diann has tackled the intersecting injustices of racism, poverty, and marginalization. Diann now leads Georgetown’s Racial Justice Institute as its Executive Director.

We invite law students to RSVP for this opportunity to have lunch with Diann and learn about her life’s work and career journey. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited.
