Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby has served for nearly 30 years as a judge on the trial and appellate levels of the D.C. Courts. She has served on the D.C. Court of Appeals since 2006 and became Chief Judge in 2017. Chief Judge Blackburne-Rigsby Chairs the Joint Committee on Judicial Administration for the District of Columbia Courts. She previously worked in the D.C. Attorney General’s Office and in private practice at the law firm of Hogan Lovells, LLC. She served as President of the Conference of Chief Justices (CCJ) and Chair of the National Center for State Courts Board of Directors for the 2023-2024 term. Chief Judge Blackburne-Rigsby has lectured and trained judges across the country and internationally on subjects including ethics, judicial opinion writing, calendar and case management, access to justice, judicial leadership and emerging issues such as ethical and innovative uses of generative artificial intelligence (AI) for judges and state court systems.
