The Honorable Cheri N. Simpkins has served a judge in the District Court for Prince George’s County, Maryland, since August of 2017. Prior to being elevated to the bench, she served as an Assistant State’s Attorney for 14 years in Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office. During her tenure at the State’s Attorney’s Office, she was the Chief of the Juvenile Division, Assistant Chief of the District Court Division, and served as a prosecutor in the Special Victims Unit where she prosecuted child abuse and sex crimes cases, baby homicides, child exploitation cases and domestic violence cases. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. She received her Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Judge Simpkins is active in a variety of Bar Associations. She is a member of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, The Links, Incorporated and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Judge Simpkins is a native of New York and resides in Bowie, Maryland.
