Joshua L. Mogil is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center and an attorney at WilmerHale in Washington, D.C.

He previously served as a political appointee in both the Obama and Biden Administrations, most recently as Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General. He also served in various roles at USAID, the US Department of State, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the White House, and at Capital One Bank. Professor Mogil began his legal career clerking on the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and on the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He graduated magna cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center and received his BS in International Politics from the Georgetown School of Foreign Service.

An active leader in the legal community, he also serves as the elected Treasurer and Board Governor of the DC Bar, on the Board of Directors of the DC Bar Pro Bono Center, as a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and on the advisory board of the DC LGBTQ+ Bar Association, where he most recently served as president. Professor Mogil was recently recognized as one of the 40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40 by the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association and as a 2025 LGBTQ+ Business Leader by the Washington Business Journal.
