Dr. Paul Kalb, co-founded Sidley Austin LLP’s Global Life Sciences practice, served as Global Practice Leader for the firm’s Healthcare and FDA Group from 2018–2022, and headed the firm’s Health Care Group from 2004–2018. He successfully represented many of the world’s leading drug, biotech and device manufacturers as well as hospitals and other providers in criminal, civil and administrative enforcement actions involving healthcare fraud and abuse and off-label promotion. Many of his cases involved complex clinical and scientific issues. He has negotiated ground-breaking settlement agreements and Corporate Integrity Agreements and advises both boards of directors and companies on compliance issues. Paul also served on Sidley Austin’s Executive Committee from 2007–2022 and, in that capacity, helped lead the firm’s strategic planning process.
Prior to his career in law, Dr. Kalb completed his residency in Internal Medicine at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and worked as an Attending Physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He currently serves on the board of Children’s National Medical Center.
Dr. Kalb is a graduate of Yale Law School, where he served as a Senior Editor of the Yale Law Journal, and a graduate (AOA) of the Boston University School of Medicine.
