D.C. Street Law Clinic Presents 46th Annual Street Law Mock Trial Tournament

April 20, 2018

The D.C. Street Law Clinic at Georgetown Law will hold its 46th Annual Street Law Final on April 23. Throughout the year, more than 300 students from D.C. public high schools have been working with Georgetown Law students to learn about practical law. Now, the high schoolers will play the roles of prosecutors and defense lawyers in a hypothetical case about the use of deadly force by police officers. The Mock Trial Tournament Final is the culmination of this months-long effort.

Each of the 30 teams of students have presented their cases twice before a judge and jury at the District of Columbia Superior Court. Based on scoring from those rounds, the finalists from each side will make their case at the tournament finals on the evening of April 23.

Since 1972, Georgetown Law’s Street Law program has brought Georgetown Law students into area public high schools to give students who may be vulnerable to negative experiences with the law the opportunity to understand the law, and to be empowered by that understanding.
