New York Times deputy general counsel to deliver keynote on covering big data

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, November 21, and Friday, November 22, Georgetown Law’s Office of Executive and Continuing Legal Education will host a two-day conference, the 16th Annual Advanced eDiscovery Institute, at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel.

WHAT

Georgetown Law’s 16th Annual Advanced eDiscovery Institute will feature a large array of federal judges and eDiscovery thought leaders, as well as an increased focus on privacy issues. New York Times Deputy General Counsel David E. McGraw will deliver a Thursday morning keynote titled: “On the Digital Beat: How the Law, Leaks and New Reporting Tools are Shaping Coverage of Big Data’s Biggest Stories.” Other highlights will include FTC Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and experts from the Senate, Walmart and the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) discussing the latest developments in privacy legislation; sessions focusing on the cross-border impact and enforcement of the EU’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other global data privacy requirements; and panels on self-destructing messaging apps, mobile forensics, government investigations and the new eDiscovery ethics challenges related to emerging technology.
