“Rule of Law in America” Event at Georgetown Law
February 26, 2019
WASHINGTON – On Friday, March 8, Georgetown Law’s Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection and Checks and Balances will host “Rule of Law in America” at Georgetown Law.
On March 8, former high-ranking officials from Republican and Democratic administrations will discuss current tensions in our government’s separation of powers, rule of law challenges, and the role lawyers can play in promoting civil discourse at “Rule of Law in America” at Georgetown Law. George T. Conway III, who cofounded the group Checks and Balances, will kick off the event, followed by a keynote on “The Role of the Courts in a Constitutional Democracy” by Georgetown University Professor Anthony Clark Arend. The Washington Post’s Carol Leonnig will moderate a panel discussion featuring former national security officials Mary McCord and Joshua Geltzer, who have mounted a series of challenges to executive overreach and other violations of law through their work at Georgetown Law’s Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection, as well as former Justice Department and White House officials Stuart M. Gerson, who is also co-counsel in a suit challenging President Trump’s emergency declaration, and Alan Charles Raul, who were among the conservative and libertarian lawyers to cofound Checks and Balances in November 2018.
