Boston College Law Professor Mary Sarah Bilder delivers Georgetown Law’s 2019 Thomas F. Ryan Lecture

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, March 6, Professor Mary Sarah Bilder of Boston College Law School will deliver the 2019 Thomas F. Ryan Lecture at Georgetown Law.

WHAT

Professor Mary Sarah Bilder will explore the foundations for women’s political participation in the United States in Georgetown Law’s 2019 Thomas F. Ryan Lecture: “The Lady and George Washington: Female Genius in the Age of the Constitution.” Professor Bilder argues that the Constitution was drafted at a moment of burgeoning progress for women, when transnational ideas about girls’ education, female intellectual capacity and women’s contributions to public life were of growing interest. As a case study of her research, Bilder will discuss the pioneering life and career of Eliza Harriot Barons O’Connor, who gave a 1787 lecture attended by George Washington.
