About Tech Foundations
Georgetown Law’s Tech Foundations for Government Staff is a dynamic two-day immersive program designed to equip Congressional and federal agency staff with essential, up-to-date knowledge on today’s most important technologies, emerging innovations, and regulatory questions.
Held on Georgetown’s Capitol Campus, the program features expert faculty and staff who provide practical training and fresh insights into the rapidly evolving intersection of technology and law.
Because Tech Foundations evolves every year to reflect the latest breakthroughs and policy developments, whether you’re attending for the first time or returning, you’re always welcome—and encouraged—to come back and stay ahead of the curve.

Tech Foundations 2025
August Recess Program | August 6 & 7, 2025 | Georgetown Law Campus, Washington, D.C. (In-Person Only)
Spotlight on Artificial Intelligence – A two-day, in-person deep dive into how machine learning technologies work, current theories of AI regulation, and top AI areas of consideration at the federal level. The program will conclude with a careers roundtable focused on tech policy jobs in government.
Day 1 – Wednesday, August 6
Setting the AI Legal Landscape
Topics include: Foundational legal and ethical challenges in AI; distinguishing types of AI and their governance needs; bipartisan collaboration and technical literacy in durable tech policy; navigating AI industry hype; competition and antitrust fundamentals.

Day 2 – Thursday, August 7
State Laws, Global Rules, and Policy in Practice
Topics include: Global and regional approaches to AI regulation; evolving state-level legislation; oversight of autonomous systems; the role of lawyers in AI governance and policymaking; practical AI use in legal and legislative work; careers in government tech policy.
