Digital Accessibility
Digital accessibility refers to the inclusive practice of removing barriers that prevent interaction with, or access to websites, digital tools and technologies, by people with disabilities.
Georgetown Law is an inclusive community that is committed to the value of Cura Personalis, a Latin phrase meaning “care of the whole person.” Striving to ensure that our technology is accessible to individuals with auditory, cognitive, neurological, physical, speech, and visual disabilities is one way we act on that commitment. As a result of our collective actions, all members of our community benefit.
The University uses the international standards of the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
Microsoft Word comes with an inbuilt accessibility checker, with guidelines on how to fix the errors it highlights.
- To access the checker, navigate to Review on the top panel and then click on ‘Check Accessibility‘ option next to ‘Read Aloud’. Accessibility Assistant will open on the right side.
- If there are no issues, you will find a checkmark next to each accessibility check.
- If there is an issue, you will see a number next to accessibility check, which you can click on to view options to fix.
