US Dept of Labor, Office of the Solicitor International Affairs & Veterans' Affairs Internships for summer

The Employment and Training Legal Services Division (ETLS) of the Office of the Solicitor at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is seeking applications for unpaid summer internship positions.  We would like to hire 1-2 highly qualified law students who are interested in international labor law, workers’ rights, international trade, and/or human rights for a minimum of 8 weeks this summer.  Candidates must demonstrate passion for these issues, strong writing abilities, and academic achievement.  Related coursework, clinical experience, and extracurricular activities are significant plus factors.     

ETLS provides legal advice to a number of different programs at DOL, however the division is seeking interns to focus primarily on our international affairs and veterans’ anti-discrimination practice area.  The international work is for the International Labor Affairs Bureau (ILAB), which participates in cutting-edge issues of international labor law and workers’ rights.  Among other tasks, ILAB negotiates the labor protections in free trade agreements, represents the United States at the U.N.’s International Labor Organization and other international bodies, authors congressionally-required reports on child and forced labor, and investigates workers’ complaints under free trade agreements and seeks remedy where appropriate.  ETLS also supports DOL’s Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) through the enforcement of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), which provides rights to service members who leave their civilian jobs for military service and prohibits employers from discriminating against these individuals because of their military service.

2012 Loyola Patent Law Interview Program - Registration Now OPEN

Loyola University Chicago School of law is hosting the 2012 Patent Law Interview Program on Thursday, August 2 and Friday, August 3 in Chicago, Illinois.  This is a nationwide interview program that targets patent law employers, rising 2L and 3L students, and students in Intellectual Property LLM programs.

Deadline TODAY to Register for Strategic Searching for a 2L Summer Job Workshop

If you are a 2L looking for a summer job, this program is for you!  It is important to think about how the job you get this summer will not only benefit you this year, but also how it will help you think about post-grad options.  To that end, OCS and OPICS invite you to attend this Workshop, where counselors from both offices will provide you with the tools you need to focus and tailor your job search.  We will discuss how to target the employers that will both provide you with a meaningful experience this summer and put you in a more competitive position as a 3L, based on your individual goals.

This program will be offered on Monday, February 13 from 3 to 4 p.m. (McDonough 588) and Wednesday, February 15 from 1 to 2 p.m. (Hotung 1008).
