Welcome to Graduate Legal Studies at Georgetown Law, where students have an unparalleled opportunity to broaden and deepen their understanding of law through advanced study. Our extraordinary faculty combines leading scholars with sophisticated practitioners, nationally important judges, and key government officials. In this environment, American and international lawyers gather to challenge themselves to reach the next level of legal education through LL.M., S.J.D and certificate programs.

Each student can either design an individualized curriculum in our General or Individualized Studies LL.M. programs or choose to pursue a specialized degree. There are specialized LL.M. degrees in Taxation, International Business and Economic Law, National Security Law, Global Health Law, Securities and Financial Regulation, and International Legal Studies. In addition, Georgetown offers a unique Two-Year LL.M. with a Certificate in Legal English, an LL.M. in Global Health Law and International Institutions in association with the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, and a dual LL.M./Master of International Affairs with Sciences-Po in Paris.

Yet more possibilities exist with our Certificate Programs. Students can earn certificates in Employee Benefits, Estate Planning, State and Local Taxation, WTO Studies, International Human Rights Law, and Refugees and Humanitarian Emergencies. The Certificates in Employee Benefits, Estate Planning, and State and Local Taxation may be earned either in conjunction with an LL.M. degree or on a stand-alone basis.

All together, Georgetown offers more than 350 classes and seminars - including 140 classes and 90 seminars specifically for graduate students.

Georgetown also admits a select and outstanding group of graduate students to our S.J.D. Program, which culminates in a doctorate in law. Producing new knowledge and original legal scholarship, S.J.D. students write a dissertation under the supervision of a full-time faculty member.
