Graduate Student Life

A Vibrant CommunityGeorgetown Law's graduate students are part of an extraordinarily vibrant intellectual and social community. Students make the most of their time at Georgetown by developing lasting friendships with others in our diverse and global student body, seeking opportunities to expand their horizons by attending the numerous events on campus by the Law Center's institutes and journals, taking up the Pro Bono Pledge to perform public interest service while at Georgetown, joining and taking leadership roles in student organizations, and by taking advantage of the Law Center's extensive student services - from its state of the art on-campus fitness center to the Wednesday Wind Down to the Lawyers in Balance program. Graduate student life begins, but doesn't end, in the classroom.
Intellectual LifeEvery day at the Law Center is an opportunity to learn outside of the classroom. Georgetown's numerous institutes, law journals, and student organizations are constantly bringing together faculty, distinguished jurists from around the world, and leading practitioners to the Law Center to speak or participate in panels and symposia on cutting-edge legal issues. Graduate students can also participate in intramural moot court and alternative dispute resolution competitions to become members of Georgetown's Barristers' Council and represent the school in moot and arbitration competitions. Public-interest minded students might want to both contribute to the community and earn a certificate in pro bono service by taking up the Pro Bono Pledge.
Student OrganizationsGeorgetown Law has more than 75 active student organizations that address a range of interests - from international arbitration to securities to human rights. Many student organizations work to enhance students' extracurricular experience by focusing on non-academic matters like wine tasting, athletics, and even drama and musical theater. Organizations like the Black Law Students Association, Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, Latin American Law Students Association, South Asian Law Students Association, Korean-American Law Students Association, Outlaw, the Muslim Law Students Association, Caribbean Law Students Association, and Jewish Law Students Association also work to support students with academic and social events. The Law Center has two student organizations specifically for graduate students - The Tax Council and Foreign Lawyers at Georgetown. Graduate students can also participate in student government by joining the Student Bar Association as LL.M. representatives.
Health and WellnessStudents' health and wellness are priorities for the Law Center. The Campus Ministry has Catholic, Jewish, Protestant, Latter-Day Saints, and Muslim chaplains. The Office of the Dean of Students organizes the Lawyers in Balance program to help students reduce stress and balance their personal and professional lives. In addition, a state of the art fitness center is located on the Georgetown Law campus.
