International Human Rights Law Certificate

Georgetown University Law Center has a rich variety of human rights courses and programs which are a natural fit to the Certificate of Study (Certificate) in the field of international human rights law. This program is designed to encourage LL.M. students to attain extensive knowledge in the field of human rights law on both a national and international level. Our renowned full-time faculty teach a variety of courses in the international human rights law area and provide advice on the development of the curriculum. Our adjunct faculty, with years of practical and teaching experience, come to the Law Center from a variety of organizations, including the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Organization of American States and a number of non-governmental organizations. The International Human Rights Law Certificate is available to students enrolled in a Law Center LL.M. program. Please note that J.D. students are not eligible for the Certificate program. The Law Center will not admit students solely for the International Human Rights Law Certificate program.
The following are requirements for the International Human Rights Law Certificate:
Credits transferred from other institutions and/or graduate programs will not count towards the Certificate. In addition, certain courses or seminars included in the Certificate may be applied to the specialized credits required for the LL.M. in International Legal Studies. Students may not register for more than one Certificate program. International Human Rights Law Courses (eligible for Certificate) *The following courses count towards the required number of credits for students pursuing a certificate in International Human Rights.
Additional Courses of Interest Many courses that do not count towards the certificate can be vital additions to your course of study. These courses may not focus exclusively on International Human Rights issues, but may nonetheless be interesting and important for students interested in human rights-related issues.
