"A scholarship from Georgetown allowed me to complete the LL.M. and prepare for my work on health policy and legislation at the InterAmerican Heart Foundation in Argentina. One area of my work focuses on how to better regulate harmful products like cigarettes that kill 44,000 people each year in Argentina from smoking related causes. LL.M. courses on trade law and health helped me to better understand how to counter industry arguments when government regulations are challenged by the tobacco industry under trade treaties. We successfully raised tobacco taxes in Argentina, reducing the number of people smoking, specifically children and adolescents."

“The LL.M. helped me to better understand the connection between health, human rights and law, making me a more effective advocate against violations of women’s rights, such as female genital mutilation and domestic violence. In my work at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Uganda (German Society for International Cooperation) I provide technical advice to the Uganda National Planning Authority, ensuring a human rights-based approach is integrated into our National Development Plan to improve the health of our population."

“The LL.M broadened my understanding of how the law is used to strengthen government systems to advance global public health and the legal frameworks governing the regulation of medical products. Through this program, and with support from my former team at the United States Food and Drug Administration, I had the opportunity to serve on secondment to the World Health Organization to advance thinking on anti-counterfeit drug policies. I also served as a technical advisor to an Interpol medical crimes team tackling the online sale of counterfeit and illicit medicines. I am currently the Head of Worldwide Regulatory Affairs at Monosol Rx and an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center offering courses in health and drug law and regulation.”
