Scholars Programs
Students admitted to the first time J.D. program can apply to participate in the following specialized scholars programs.
Candidates are permitted to apply and be offered admission to more than one Scholars Program. However, candidates may only accept admission to one of the Business, Global, or Tech Law Scholars Programs.
The Public Interest Law Scholars (PILS) program provides multidimensional support to a small cohort of JD students (20 per class year) demonstrating extraordinary commitment to pursuing a public interest career after graduation. PILS scholars receive enhanced summer funding for public interest positions, mentorship support, community programming, and an invitation to be considered for earmarked public interest scholarships for 2L and 3L year. PILS scholars also participate in an upper-level public interest seminar featuring preeminent public interest leaders and guest speakers.
The Global Law Scholars program is an academic honors program for students who are interested in pursuing a career in international or transnational law. As a Global Law Scholar, you will have the opportunity to combine language skills and cultural familiarity with rigorous and directed legal training. You will also be able to cultivate critical skills needed to practice in today’s global legal environment.
The Technology Law & Policy Scholars program gives students the opportunity to engage in rigorous academic work, develop their technological skills, and deepen their understanding of policy debates related to new and emerging technologies. As a Technology Law & Policy Scholar, you will have the opportunity to work in a hands-on environment and combine practical experience with a solid theoretical foundation.
Combining unparalleled access to Georgetown alumni, practical coursework, and a unique mentoring program, students selected for the competitive Business Law Scholars program will work closely with faculty leads to develop the business acumen required for careers in corporate law – whether as an associate in a law firm, as counsel in a company, or in starting your own business.
The Office of Public Interest and Community Service is pleased to invite incoming students to join the Public Interest Fellows Corps, which provides enhanced programming, counseling support, and a community of peers for students hoping to use their law degrees to advance justice. We designed the program to offer fellows the support and guidance they need to explore non-profit and government opportunities in the U.S. and overseas as an intentional part of their law school experience. Fellows typically join in their first year, and the program welcomes transfer students.
