The Future of Migration in the Americas Webinar Tuesday, October 27 9:00 am Mexico City 11:00 am Washington, DC 12:00 pm Buenos Aires 5:00 pm Geneva In this webinar we will discuss possible scenarios for migration in North America in the next few years. Can we expect a new surge of migration to the United States as a result of the economic crisis in the region produced by COVID-19? What do recent trends at the U.S.-Mexico border tell us about the situation on the ground? How would the U.S. respond to new migration pressures under a Trump 2 or Biden administrations? What is the likelihood of a more regional approach to migration that includes investment and economic relief in source countries? Are there any new opportunities on that front? What can the U.S., Mexico and other countries in the region do, including at the borders, to better regulate migration flows and reduce the insecurity and violence that migrants face? The session will last one hour and a half, with the last half hour exclusively for Q&A. - Katharine Donato, Georgetown University, Institute for the Study of International Migration - Miryam Hazán, Tower Center for Political Studies, Southern Methodist University - Tracey Horan, Kino Border Initiative - Andrew Selee, Migration Policy Institute Moderated by: Alvaro Santos, CAROLA, Georgetown Law
