Human Rights Advocacy in Action Practicum Information Session

In 2023, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child for the first time formally recognized every child’s human right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. This groundbreaking document set out steps that all countries party to the UN children’s rights treaty must take to uphold that right.

The fact that the United States has failed to ratify the treaty hasn’t stopped HRI’s practicum partner, Our Children’s Trust, from leveraging this growing consensus to make the right to a healthy climate a reality in the lives of children, here in the US and around the world. Late last year, in a landmark case brought on behalf of sixteen young and indigenous people, the Montana Supreme Court ruled that children have a state constitutional right to “a clean and healthful environment.”

If you want to be part of leveraging this innovative strategy to protect the climate, join us for an information session to learn about our plans for this year’s Human Rights Advocacy in Action Practicum. You will meet the practicum faculty, hear what it’s like to be a student advocate, and learn how to apply for a spot in the 2025–2026 class.

No prior experience in human rights, strategic litigation, or climate justice is required. Any interested upper class J.D. student or LL.M. student may attend and/or apply.
