MPRE and Bar Exam
The Law Center’s process for providing reasonable accommodations is independent from the process for the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) and/or the Bar Exam. Receipt of accommodations at Georgetown Law does not ensure accommodations for the Bar Exam and/or MPRE. It is the student’s responsibility to compile documentation and prepare applications to request accommodations for these exams.
MPRE
The first step to apply for accommodations for the MPRE is to review the Important Dates for MPRE Test Accommodations to compile appropriate documentation and apply for accommodations well in advance of your preferred test administration. It typically takes the NCBE at least 25 business days to review a request for accommodations. A student must apply for accommodations and receive a determination before registering and scheduling a test appointment. The later a request is submitted after the recommended submission date, the greater the chance the request will not be approved on the preferred date, time, or location.

Certification of Accommodations History
Georgetown Law students may complete the History of Accommodations Request Form to request that the Office of Accessibility Services draft a letter verifying approved accommodations at Georgetown Law. This letter will be shared with the student via Box. The NCBE has indicated that students may alternatively provide a letter that addresses the information requested in the Certification of Accommodations History Form.
Personal Narrative
Use the Optional Personal Narrative as an opportunity to describe how your disability/disabilities impact your experience taking the MPRE and how each accommodation you are requesting removes a barrier for equitable access.
- If you are requesting to test in a smaller setting, describe the functional limitations of your documented disabilities and explain why a different setting will reasonably accommodate your access needs.
- If you are requesting additional time, describe your experience taking timed assessments and explain how/why additional time will address documented functional limitations and allow you to equitably access the exam.
- If you are requesting access to personal items, describe the functional limitations of your documented disabilities and explain why you must access any assistive technologies, medical supplies, etc. to equitably access the exam.
Submit an Appeal or Request Reconsideration
A student who disagrees with a test accommodation decision may either submit an appeal or request reconsideration by logging in to their NCBE Account. Do not register for a test appointment until after you receive a decision on the appeal or request for reconsideration.
Typically, the recommendation is that students intending to request accommodations for the Bar Exam do not take the MPRE without accommodations. Previous success on standardized exams without accommodations may be cited as a reason for denying future accommodation requests.
Bar Exam
The first step to apply for accommodations is to consult the ABA Directory: Bar Information for Applicants with Disabilities for information regarding how to request accommodations in each state. It is important to review specific state requirements and deadlines to compile appropriate documentation and apply for accommodations well in advance of the preferred test administration to allow time to appeal if necessary.
