Transfer Applicants
Georgetown Law welcomes transfer applications from current students at ABA-accredited law schools for Fall semester admission to the second year class.
Georgetown Law will only accept transfer applications from those who will have completed their first year of full-time or part-time study at the time of matriculation into Georgetown Law.
Georgetown Law does not accept transfer credit for first-year courses taught online. Students enrolled in fully online programs may not apply as transfer students.
Georgetown Law will accept a maximum of 31 semester hours of academic credit for transfer from an ABA-approved law school.

After admission, Georgetown Law will determine the number of credits it will accept. Credit earned through distance learning courses will not be granted for first-year courses.
Georgetown Law’s transfer application will open on February 1, 2026.
Round One – Fall Grades Only

Due to formal private sector interview programs moving earlier this year, admitted transfer students will not be eligible to participate in Georgetown Law’s On-Camera Interview Program (OCI). We encourage students to participate in their current school’s recruitment process. Â
However, admitted transfer students who have committed to Georgetown Law will immediately be eligible to:
- Meet 1:1 with a dedicated career advisor, who can provide customized guidance on application and job search strategies aligned with your career goals;
- Â Access resources to help you draft effective application materials and detailed, line-by-line, review and feedback on your resume and cover letter;
- Access Georgetown Law’s online Canvas course, Pathways to Practice, which provides extensive resources on legal job searches and settings, recordings of instructional workshops, document templates, and more information to help you succeed in your job search.
In addition, once transfer students have committed to Georgetown Law, they will be eligible to participate in Georgetown summer and fall recruitment activities.
Our preferred application is our online version, through LSAC.

A nonrefundable $85 fee must be submitted at the time you apply. This can be done by credit card through LSAC. If you are unable to submit your application through LSAC, please contact us at lawspecialprograms@georgetown.edu.
Please complete the first two sections of the Transfer Certification Form and have your current law school complete the third section. Your current law school should then send the form to Georgetown Law directly.
Georgetown Law does not require you to submit a letter of good standing from your current law school, however, a letter of good standing can be submitted in place of the Transfer Certification Form. The letter should include class rank and description of any disciplinary action.
Your resume should describe your work experience, extracurricular or volunteer activities, academic institutions attended, and any academic honors or awards. There is no page limit, though we recommend a one to two page resume.
Your personal statement should describe your background, goals, and reasons for requesting to transfer. You should include any information that you feel will assist the Admissions Committee in making its decision.
You need to submit your current law school transcript with all final grades from the previous semester listed. We will accept an official transcript or an unofficial transcript obtained from your online student portal.
Applicants applying in the Spring semester of their first year must submit a transcript that includes all Fall semester grades. In addition, an applicant must have at least 3 reported grades on their transcript to apply. Mid-term grades that are not reported on a transcript will not meet this requirement.
All applicants must register with the Credential Assembly Service (CAS). Georgetown Law will not accept copies of this report from the applicant’s current law school. Once an applicant’s Eapp has been received, we will request your CAS Report from LSAC.
Your letter of recommendation must come from a law school faculty member who taught a class in which you participated. While you are only required to submit one letter of recommendation, you are welcome to submit as many as you would like.
