During my career I have been affiliated with the profession of policing and police training/education for over 35 years. I was a police officer with a large metropolitan police service, on the front line and as a criminal investigator before moving to the Ontario Police College [OPC] which is a provincial residential police training facility for every career stage. I started my OPC career as a physical skills based trainer, then coordinated criminal investigation education, and undertook a two year secondment as Chief Instructor before retiring as the Team Leader/Instructor for the Leadership Development Unit as well as the Resilience and Wellness Training Coordinator.
For almost one year it was my privilege to be both a Leadership Fellow and Visiting Scholar at the FBI National Academy as well as a LEEDA course graduate and guest instructor. I have partnered with a couple Ontario universities to conduct research on stress and performance as well as more recently the importance of character and character based education in policing. Facilitating the ABLE program allows me the chance to connect nationally/internationally with police professionals by addressing aspects to promote health and well being, reduce mistakes and promote ethical actions.
As an avid reader and student I am interested in the study of positive psychology, psychologically safe workplaces and progressive leadership practices.
On a personal note I have been married for almost 40 years and my husband is also retired, we have 3 adult sons spread across Canada, who have families of their own. One is a writer for the golf industry, one is a research data analyst and one is in the Canadian Military. I hope to be able to use my experience to deliver the ABLE program with authenticity to benefit police officers both personally and professionally.
