Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Daniel Tsai (LL.M.’79) to Speak at 2025 Georgetown Law Commencement

Georgetown Law's 2025 commencement ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, May 18 at Georgetown University's historic Hilltop campus, will feature two distinguished speakers, both of whom will receive honorary Doctor of Laws degrees.

Henry Louis Gates Jr.
The Commencement Address will be delivered by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research at Harvard University and the host of the PBS television series Finding Your Roots. Gates is also an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker, literary scholar, journalist and cultural critic.

Daniel Tsai (LL.M.’79)
The Alumni Address will be presented by Daniel Tsai (LL.M.’79), chairman of Fubon Group, a leading Taiwanese firm whose holdings include financial services and e-commerce companies. Tsai is a generous philanthropist and the lead donor for a new flagship academic building, Tsai Hall, to be constructed on the Georgetown Law campus.
