Welcome from the Dean
Why Georgetown Law? Simply put: there’s no other place like it. Where else can you study the law just blocks from the U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court with some of our country’s top legal minds and practitioners?

At Georgetown, you’ll find academic experiences that will help fulfill your ambitions and inspire new ones. Most of all, you’ll build a dynamic community of friends, mentors, and colleagues that will support you through law school and beyond. You
Our renowned experiential education program offers students extraordinary opportunities to ‘learn by doing.’ Georgetown Law features the nation’s top-ranked clinical program, giving students hands-on experience in litigation, negotiation, and public advocacy across more than a dozen legal fields.
Our 20-plus centers and institutes are actively tackling real-world crises in global health, climate change, human rights, and more. Our unique Supreme Court Institute moots virtually every case heard by the Supreme Court each term, giving our students the chance to witness and engage with the nation’s top lawyers as they prepare for arguments that will define our future.
With more than two hundred full-time professors, and adjuncts recruited from the ranks of elite legal practice, Georgetown Law has one of the largest law faculties in the nation. Our scholars bring unmatched expertise to the classroom, blending groundbreaking scholarship with a commitment to public service and real-world legal reform. Drawing from diverse disciplines—from constitutional and international law, to civil rights and public health–our faculty actively shape the debates taking place in courtrooms, legislative halls, and international institutions.
Above all, we are deeply committed to the Jesuit concept of cura personalis—educating the whole person—and advancing justice through the law. This means nurturing a campus culture where all members can thrive. It is this distinctive preparation that empowers our alumni to excel in every sector and corner of the world in private practice, public interest, business, government, and academia. And wherever they go, they remain bound by a commitment to service and our defining motto: Law is but the means; justice is the end.
I invite you to explore our website and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Threads. We hope that you will come visit us and talk to our faculty, staff, and students to experience firsthand what Georgetown Law is all about.
