Sushma Raman

Sushma Raman is a seasoned social change strategist and leader. Her work in the domain of technology and society includes leadership roles in organizations seeking to advance rights, justice, and equity in a digital age, as well as writing, public speaking, convening, and strategic advising.
While serving as Executive Director of the Carr Ryan Center for Human Rights at Harvard Kennedy School from 2015 to 2023, Sushma helped launch the technology and human rights program, including a fellows’ program, events, research, and convenings. The podcast she launched and hosted while at the Center – Justice Matters – covered a range of topics related to technology including algorithmic bias, the information environment, and surveillance, and had listeners in over 150 countries around the world.
Sushma serves as a strategic advisor to several leading organizations in the technology and society space. She is a Board Member of Global Witness and Robert & Ethel Kennedy Human Rights, and an Advisory Board Member of the Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights at Harvard Kennedy School. She has taught graduate courses in the public policy schools at UCLA, USC, Tufts Fletcher School, and Harvard Kennedy School.
